You've come a
long way baby! We are so excited to report that Mia is
walking independently. She received her walker in
October and was enjoying moving around on wheels. Our
PT at home was very helpful with her walker and getting
started around the house. Mia later started taking
about 2 steps independently and we were thrilled. Mia's
doctor suggested that we explore Pool Therapy as well as
Horse Therapy to work on her balance (not falling over
when she was sitting and someone walked by) as well as
her walking. Mia started Pool Therapy in November. She
was fine as long as she was in my arms but when she had
to go to the Pool PT she was sobbing and completely
breaking my heart. The first day she sobbed the whole
way home....then sobbed in the shower after wards. By
the time she was down for her nap I think we were both
emotionally exhausted!
We are so
thankful for the Pool Therapy as it has benefited Mia so
much....and she likes it better too! She started taking
about 6 steps in December and can now take about 40
steps independently. She still falls a fair amount but
she just says "I fall" and gets up happily. Mia's
strong personality has paid off as she wills herself to
do everything. She loves to get up on her step and
climb up and down into her booster seat. She enjoys
doing projects around the house and wants to be a big
girl so much!
Her Speech
Therapy is really progressing with a woman who is like
Mary Poppins....so creative and fun! While getting her
second pair of shoes last week she walked in the store
with a huge smile and said "Shoooooooe Me"! When the
man put them on she said "Thank you" to him and then
"thank you MaMa" to me...so sweet. After trying out her
new braces and shoes she fell several times and said "I
fall" and "I mess" (I'm a mess!). She definitely has a
cute sense of humor.
Lately she has
become very attached to Brad. When he leaves the house
she stands at the door crying and says "Saaaaaaaaaaaaaad,
Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.....Daddy Meeeee"! Brad is
usually pretty firm with the girls if he says no but
with Mia, her saaaaaaad, saaaadd cries have been known
to work a few times where he takes her with him.....with
Mia beaming in his arms!
Caroline and
Sarah continue to "help" her everyday with various
things. Sarah continues to want to treat her like a
baby which Mia sometimes complies with and other times
revolts...sometimes within about a two minute period!
Caroline often says "Oh Mia....your sooo cute" and just
smiles at her.
We recently read
and article about someone's child trying to run the
house and be the CEO of her own mind. We could relate
and Mia is keeping us all hopping! She has already
changed the way we talk. Mia has conditioned us to
call Sarah "Rah Rah". Mia calls Caroline (who we often
call her Chinese name Bin Bin) "Mean Mean". Most
children would be offended but Caroline thinks it is
endearing. She said her almost first sentence the other
day in the sweetest voice "thank you cookie Mamma"!
We are closely
approaching our one year anniversary of having Mia on
March 13th. It has been a super busy year with her and
also one that makes us thankful for all her
progress....literally each step!
We thank you for
all your support and prayers!
