We spent the
day hanging out with the kids in the morning. We had
lunch with the group and then we all went shopping in
Guangzhou. Having the kids with us was a quick way for
us to spend less money. They kept asking for the
inexpensive toys and kept us away from the big
purchases.
Mia had a
medical appt. with the other kids. Sharon and Larry
were wonderful to take Caroline and Sarah back to the
hotel to play and have dinner…a lifesaver! The other
kids did great with the medical check-up…except for
Mia. She sat on my lap and took one look at the doctor
and screamed a petrified scream. She was lunging for
Brad and was crying so hard no sound would come out. We
did not know she had it in her! She was making me so
sad I started choking up while trying to soothe her.
The doctor was very kind and tried to be quick. We
then had to lay her down to measure her and she was
frantic. Brad was able to hold her after it was over
and she clung to him with her head on his shoulder…both
arms wrapped around for dear life!
We then had to
go to the next station where a nurse took her to weigh
her….panic….then we held her…then on to an eye exam and
to test her hearing. The doctor could not make her turn
her head each time because she was screaming so loud she
could not hear the toy! We assured her she heard great
in the quiet hotel room. I think we were just as
relieved as she was for the exam to be over!
She had
several medical tests run in Chang De at the local
hospital during the adoption process before she came to
us. We don’t know if something scared her there or if
it just her personality.
She looks and
acts very healthy. She will have a more through exam
with the doctors (Brad might need to bring some pilot
ear plugs to give them) at home. Wish us luck as I
brought a lollipop for bribery and even that did not
work.
We went out to
diner at an American Dinner named Lucy’s…heaven to have
American food. Mia loves almost every food and is
eating a huge amount. When we returned to the hotel I
told Caroline and Sarah that Mia screamed at the
doctors. They thought it was so funny since they are
so grown up and would never scream. Caroline sincerely
asked if she screamed in English or Chinese!
