Surgery Update 6/27/06
Thanks so much for your prayers and support. Mia’s surgery went
very well and the doctors were very pleased with everything. It
sounds like it was a best case scenario and we are thrilled.
When
they took her away she was crying for us and so sad. They said
the medicine they gave her will make her forget being taken away
but her Mom sure won’t! Her tethered cord surgery lasted about
5 hours and Mia did great. The growth had traveled further up
the spinal cord but the doctor was able to remove as much as
possible without hurting the nerves. We will know more once she
recovers but he said her legs and feet were able to receive
stimulation during surgery.
She
is in the ICU for 2 days while they try to keep her flat on her
stomach. So far she has not been happy. When we were able to
see her the first time she was crying in a horse voice saying
“done” “done” and then signing it. That is what she does at
home when she wants to get out. So hard to watch her wake up
every 5-10 minutes crying. We are hoping to get the right
medicines so she can sleep tonight. She should be in the
hospital for at least the next 5-7 days.
They
came back with her blood type today. Amazing that Mia’s blood
type is A-positive just like her parents and two sisters. We
don’t know the odds of 5 biologically unrelated people to all
have the same blood type, but it is pretty amazing.
Thanks for your continued prayers for our angel. We will keep
you all posted of her progress.
